Opening of Preregistration Period for Coaches and their Families

Hello PDSA Families! Great news!

It’s looking more and more like the Philadelphia Dragons Sports Association will be able to host a 2021 In-House Baseball Season!

Typically, we open registration for our Spring baseball season during the second week of January. As you can surely imagine, there remains substantial uncertainty as to when we will be able to resume baseball activities. As a result, we plan to delay the opening of registration until at least the first week of February.

Among the issues we must resolve are (1) whether and when the City of Philadelphia will be issuing permits for the fields we need to host our practices and games and (2) what capacity we will have for each of our divisions.

What the City does about the permitting process remains largely out of our control. However, the issue of capacity is a matter we may be able to address.

As our families know, Dragons Baseball is run entirely by volunteers. How many children can participate in each of our divisions is entirely dependent on how many people volunteer to serve as a coach.

Under normal circumstances, we assume that we will be able to recruit the coaches needed to organize the teams in each of our divisions. Suffice to say, these are not normal circumstances. If fewer parents volunteer to serve as coaches, the PDSA will be required to reduce enrollment. To help resolve some of this uncertainty, we are immediately opening a Preregistration Period for Coaches and their family members.

If you intend to volunteer to coach during the Dragons 2021 In-House Baseball Season, please email [email protected] to preregister you and your children for the Dragons 2021 Baseball Season.

Once we get a sense of how many coaches will we have for the 2021 seasons, we will be in a much better position of knowing how many spaces will be available in our baseball divisions once we are able to open our general registration process.

Please keep in mind that there are no special requirements to volunteer as a coach. As we do each year, we intend to hold clinics to help teach volunteers how to run practices and generally bring a total novice up to speed on how to run a team.
